Plumbing the Depths.

Finally did something I've been meaning to do for a while and "Plumbed" the depths of some of my local spots. The technique is simple and borrowed from the modern carp anglers bag of tricks.
The set up is as above. A lead capable of sinking the float (In this case an old Pike float) is threaded onto the line followed by a bead and a swivel clip to which the float is attached. Measure 50cm from the top of the rod handle up the blank and mark with a piece of tape.
Method, cast out and wind until the float has made contact with the lead, slacken off the clutch and pull line off the spool in 50cm sections until the float appears on the surface. Record the depth and move on. You will need calm conditions slack water and a spring low is useful, to which can be added tidal variations. Simple!
