I'm pleased to announce that I will be testing some super Soft Plastics for
The Zipper Worm Company in 2011 . I initially came across them when looking for
Weedless Jig Heads and I have to say they were the only company offering
what I was looking for in the
5g (3/16 oz) to 14g (1/2 oz) and occasionally 21g (3/4oz) range, see below.

These Zipper Jigs all feature Gamakatsu hooks and are excellent quality.
I will post some images of my favourite Zipper Soft Plastics at a later date.

Fishing Gloves.

,

These gloves have just arrived from Hart Fly Shop and I have to say they are excellent. I wore them fishing yesterday (I Blanked) and they kept my hands nicely warm without inhibiting any aspect of my fishing. The main reason for the purchase was fly casting as I noticed that waving one's right hand above the head in the sub zero temperatures we are currently experiencing runs the risk of frostbite! Also, I've often thought that a fall on to barnacles could causes serious damage to the hands, if unprotected, so another plus but I won't be wearing them come the summer!

Fly Casting with Glenda Powell.

,

Saturday afternoon I spent a hugely enjoyable few hours with Glenda Powell of the Blackwater Lodge & Salmon Fishery for the purpose of finally getting some fly casting lessons. Glenda is not only a World Champion Caster and highly qualified instructor she is also great fun to be around. Glenda took me from zero casting skills to having a fair idea of what I should be doing which will hopefully develop with practice. This opens up a whole new fishing world for me, a world that I know will fascinate and absorb me along with the other areas of fishing that I love.

Fish Fight on C4

,

Saw an excellent documentary on UK Channel 4 Television last night. Well known TV Chef and presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is fronting a campaign to address the way fishing is regulated in EU waters. During the program he went afloat with
fisherman a
nd witnessed the immoral dumping of huge amounts of fish (also
premium quality food) due to the current quota
system that causes this to happen once quota limits have been reached. As Hugh says if this were lambs
piled
high on the side of the road there would be uproar but at sea its
out of sight and out of mind, well its not anymore. You can find out more about this issue and add your support Here

Blog2print.

,

This Blog is now a book thanks to Blog2print and no it won't be available in all good bookshops!
There is a little bit of work and a few choices to be made when using this service but I have to say I'm very pleased with the result. Its all well and good to put time and effort into something that's out there in cyberspace but there's nothing like getting a hard copy that you'll have forever. I ordered two copies and I chose the hard back & colour option which cost around 30 Dollars each plus express shipping in order to get them before christmas.
They arrived in about ten days with quality packaging and I have to say I'm delighted with the result.
Well worth the effort.

Happy New Year

,

Happy new year and lets hope the fishing is good.

Lets also hope that common sense prevails and the forward thinking laws that have made Ireland the envy of the European Bass fishing world are maintained for many years to come. I'd also like to see better controls on all commercial fishing before its too late for us all but I doubt that will happen any time soon.

 Anyway Sláinte and Enjoy!
